«Carpet of Floating Dreams» refers to a water surface. A hovering carpet of shivering light lines kept on site between a sharp light frame.

The water surface; both fragile and violent, keep our dreams floating, our gaze along the water line longing for another place, or under the sea level, into another world, and other dreams.

To survive or to be drowned.

Carpet of Floating Dreams is made of 100 meters of electromagnetic light cable. Size 430 x 380 cm.

Viel Bjerkeset Andersen is a Norwegian artist working with mixed media and with various light conceptions, including photography, installations, sculpture, land art, public art, audio and video works. Her art projects can vary between large formats and small, the art works are very often site specific projects, and always with a focus on the human interaction.

In her photos, she is working with a time as a dimension, defining her relationships with time and space, making these photos in unusual places. Her images are ‘looking’ through the time and give a temporary space, in which exist glimpses of people who lived there sometime or were in this space.

Andersen is well known for art projects in connection with infrastructure, like along highways and in tunnels. A project, where Andersen was participating, „Vegpakke Drammen”, including the light object in the tunnel, „Sfæren“, she was awarded with Beautiful roads price in 2004. Her light installation „The Sphere“ became a symbol of Drammen city.

Viel Bjerkeset Andersen has studied at National Art Academy in Oslo, Norway, and at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Art in Paris, France. She lives and work in Oslo, Norway.
